Jim ‘Kitty’ Kaat’s Baseball Pitching Philosophy:
If all of the technology, video and intense instruction took place when I was a young pitcher, I don't know if I could have thrown a strike. Pitching is an art, not a science.
Jim Kaat’s pitching practice tips:
· Throwing the ball as often as you physically can and developing a feel for holding the ball, not gripping it, is the single best exercise you can do to improve your pitching technique and gain arm strength.
· Get a buddy and roll balls to one another and practice throwing like you were a shortstop throwing to first base. It's the best way to find your proper arm angle and develop a consistent release of the ball.
· After warming up from the pitching rubber, see how many strikes you can throw with your fastball. When you get to the point where you can throw 8 out of 10 in the strike zone, not before, you can experiment with another pitch, preferably a change of pace.
